Shop with living accommodation above. Comprises 3 separate builds lengthwise on a narrow frontage to the High Street. The central part comprises a possible late mediaeval timber framed hall-house altered in C16 the front and rear parts are C18 additions. Front part is an early C18 timber framed building, clad in C20 tile hanging and with hipped old tiled roof. 3 storeys, 2 windows. C19 sashes without glazing bars but with horns, Parapet. C20 shop front. The interior of this part has a 1st floor front room with early C18 cupboard with serpentine shelving and early C18 2 panelled door with HC hinge and C18 floor- boards, 1st to 2nd floor retains early C18 dog-leg staircase with turned balus- ters. 2nd floor room has 6 fielded panelled door. Post of collar beam and through purlin type. At time of survey some of the internal walls were exposed with thin framing and lath and plaster. The central part of the building seems to comprise a front section of 2 bays which may have been an open hall-house which was extended to the rear with the ceiling heightened and a massive brick chimney stack inserted in the later C16. Interior ground floor shop has cham- fered floor joists with 1 inch chamfer. 1st floor has front corridor displaying massive curved tie beam chamfered and with run out stop supported on gunstock jowled posts with wall plate sawn through when passage was inserted. Above the tie beam is a later roll-moulded beam forming part of a later C16 ceiling, the rest of which is visible in an adjoining room. Corridor has a further beam with 2 inch chamfer and lambs tongue stops. Massive brick inserted chimney stack with C18 cupboard in alcove with serpentine shelves. Rear room has C16 framing with chamfers and lambs tongue stops. 2nd floor roof probably C18 with rafters with no ridge-piece, collar beam and through purlins, 4 light sliding casement and C19 plank door. Rear part has late C18 extension the ground floor red brick on a deep plinth with weatherboarded 1st floor and tiled roof with sash windows.
